Female Authorship and Female Culture Literary authorship is certainly one of the manifestations of culture; to author in a culture is, to a certain extent, to appropriate it in a way that both complements and transcends cultural consumption. Ultimately, the recognition of authorship is an emotional as well as a social concern for both genders: it is a matter of legitimacy and legitimization. No wonder, then, that the uncovering of supposedly suppressed, obliterated and forgotten women's literary and cultural activities has been one of the chief concerns on the agendas of womanly readers.
